On Sunday, February 7, 2010, Cub Scout Pack 103 held their annual Blue and Gold Dinner here at Cicero United Methodist Church. In the past they have held it at Camp K, but due to a scheduling mix-up at the Scout Office, the Pack asked if they could use our facilities. Thanks to Cicero United Methodist Church for the use of these facilities. This worked out very well for them.
At the Blue and Gold Dinner, which is the celebration of the birthday of Cub Scouting, eight boys crossed over from Cub Scouting into Boy Scouting. Members of Troop 103 were on hand to greet their new brother Scouts and to present them with their Troop Neckerchief and slide. Troop members of the Order of the Arrow conducted the impressive Crossover Ceremony.
All of our units, Cub Scout Pack 103, Boy Scout Troop 103 and Venture Crew 103 will take part in this year’s Scouting for Food Drive which will be held on Saturday, March 20, and Saturday, March 27. Door hangers will be distributed throughout the towns of Arcadia, Atlanta and Cicero Saturday morning, March 20. Saturday morning, March 27, the three units will canvass those same towns looking for food which is to be set out by your front door. All the food collected will remain here in our area. Please help the Scouts help those who are less fortunate by donating canned goods and non-perishable items to their food drive.
Easter Lilies are being sold by Troop 103. The sale starts March 1 and will run through March 22. See Matt VandeSande if you would like to purchase an Easter Lily in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone. Matt will gladly sell you a Lily to have in church for our Easter Services. Cost of the Lilies is around $9.00., if memory serves me correctly. Any money earned from the sale of Lilies will assist Matt in paying for future Scout activities such as summer camp, monthly campouts or activities and annual registration.
Troop 103 will hold their Early Ranks Campout on March 27 and 28. This campout is designed to help the new Scouts, who just crossed over into Scouting, get a firm grip on the basic requirements for their Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. It also prepares them for what it is like to camp with the Troop. As a Boy Scout, each Scout is responsible for themselves - for their gear and taking care of themselves in the out-of-doors, unlike Cub Scouting where you have your parents there to assist you. The Early Ranks help the new Scouts gain the confidence they need in order to be successful as a Boy Scout.
