** If you are interested in the direction that Cicero takes as a community, this is one meeting you should attend. I had the opportunity to attend the first presentation and found the ideas that where put forth very interesting... Mike Murphy
General topics of interest to Cicero Citizens:
The town council passed an ordinance requiring street addresses to be applied to every structure. This does make a lot of sense for safety reasons, but you need to know the requirements. Best place to find the requirements is the town's web site www.ciceroin.org.
Speaking of ordinances, if you are considering any construction projects, be it a new house, or remodeling the exterior, placing a fence on your property, or replacing an existing deck, don't find out the hard way as I did that you need a permit. My advice is to contact the Hamilton County Plan Commission, One Hamilton County Square, Suite 138, Noblesville, Indiana, 46060, Business: (317) 776-8490, Fax (317) 776-7628. The Hamilton County Plan Commission is under contract by the town of Cicero to issue and manage permits, perform inspections and to enforce ordinances that where implemented by the Cicero Town Council.
As Cicero is in the path of progress, now is the time for
residents to express what they would like Cicero to become. Will Cicero
grow with developments that spring up seemingly out of control, will the
downtown lose the unique architecture, will business that are attracted be the
type that detracts from the quality of life that we enjoy. Cicero is an
unique community with assets that doesn't exist in many other communities. For
example, Cicero has water front access to Morse Lake, has an operating
historical railway, the downtown is within 2 miles of a Hamilton County Park
that has huge potential, Cicero is located on an historical trail, i.e.
the La Fayette Trace. In
summary, I believe that Cicero could be an excellent community for visitors
looking for something different. I believe that the community leaders
should plan for and implement improvements that could attract businesses such as
antique and gift shops. I also believe this would be a great opportunity
to apply the tax money from the condos to these projects. Carmel is doing
the very same with the development of a cultural center with monies gained from
new developments such as Clay Terrace
